Vagina Dentata (Italy / France): Between the Clotheslines

Between the Clotheslines is the performance of our castration desires. We started from our fathers ties; we cut out our trophies using needles and scissors. The aim of our installation is to show the ridiculousness of the masculine dressing stereotypes and attributes. Pinned up, suspended, without loosing their banality of the everyday dressing, the “male” social symbols become fragile, hilarious objects in the hands of the brave housekeeper.

The warm Mediterranean wind passes between the clotheslines; it is also a typical female space. It is thus a simple and sweet story like the ones from old movies, a romantic story, where inner desires become real. In such a typical reassuring and warm scenario, the domestic “good wwm” (wife, woman, mother) is the hero. She makes explicit and manifest her hidden castration desires, hanging them up. The installation is dispersed, in a series of many little castrations desires, within a domestic everyday gesture. The housewife becomes the warrior, attaching her trophies to the clotheslines, like ridiculous, sometimes disgusting, ugly puppets, pinned up…after having been cut off!

Sophie Boulet was born in the sad city of Chartres. She works as a graphic designer. Diplômée des Beaux-Arts de Paris, Maîtrise d’arts plastiques.
